Annabelle as a Postmodern Film
Playfulness and Self Reference
Being a horror film the narrative is going to be broken up to cause suspense and the same scenario will be played out various time however with different endings. Especially when the mother imaging her baby will die. Also the reference to the previous film which feautred the same doll is creating that self reference. Even in the trailer they make link to the fact that Annabelle was featured in the previous film The Conjuring.
Flattening Effect
To me any horror film especially Annabelle use the flattening effect. The characters in film lead unauthentic lives, the do things that in a real situation they wouldn't usually do.
Generic Blurring and Intertextuatlity
This leads to a film being postmodern because it will cross boundaries between different genres. In Annabelle it crosses between horror moments but also tragedy. One example of a point in which this is achieved is when one of the most emotionally touching characters in the film decide to commit suicide.
Hyperreality
There are defining moments within Annabelle that make it hyper reality. In some moments it is hard to tell whether this is actually in the reality of the film or whether the character is dreaming or has entered a hyper real state. For example when the giant ram appears somewhat in the middle of the film. Clearly using advanced technology it causes this hyper real character that confuses the audience.

Youtube Activity: Postmodernism Explained
The video I have chosen to explain post modernity is the definition that I understand the best. That post modernist believe that less is bore. It explains postmodernism as something has to have a variety of meanings and then post modernist will eventually agree with it and see it as postmodernism.
